TRAIN FOR LIFE

Staying fit is not a modern luxury, a vanity, a trifling dalliance practised for your own shallow pleasure.

Nor should it be regarded as an amusement, a self-indulgent pastime akin to computer games for athletic types. No, fi tness is far from this.
It’s an obligation, a covenant you agreed upon when you were given a human body. It’s your responsibility to keep as fit as you can for two reasons: firstly, because it is possible that one day you’ll need it. It’s conceivable your future existence at some point will come down to pure physical ability.
Money, your fancypants uni degree or smartphone won’t count for shit.
At that moment, everything will turn on your strength, endurance and mental toughness. It will come down to you and your body. When it’s do or die, those runs, swims, pushups, chins and burpees — all that time pushing yourself past what you thought you were capable of — will pay off .
The second reason is that your fitness doesn’t just concern you. It is important to your family and friends. People depend on you. You are probably someone’s boyfriend or husband, someone’s best mate, someone’s provider and protector, someone’s dad, brother or son.
It’s likely one day they’ll need you to be physically fit — hopefully just to bolt after the runaway family dog, but perhaps it could be more serious.
If it’s not, then your pursuit of fitness should act as a guide to them.
What you do, how you act, has far-reaching implications.
Your fitness is not to be taken lightly. As a man, it’s a solemn duty to yourself and those you care about. Stay strong.
